Dr. Kurt Sawula
I was born and raised in Thunder Bay and returned home after graduating from the School of Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. I have committed myself to learning as much as possible about the things I do, so I attend a lot of seminars and workshops in order to upgrade my skills and knowledge. My goal is to treat every patient as best I can, as if they were my family. I married my high school sweetheart Michelle, and together we love to travel the world trying local food and craft beer, seeing the sights, and hiking/biking/kayaking as much as we can.
Dr. Katherine Griffiths
I graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry with my Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 2010 after completion of a Bachelor of Science degree, also at U of M. Upon completion of dental school, I moved back to Thunder Bay. Born in Red Lake, ON, I have also lived in Sault Ste. Marie, ON and Weyburn, SK but I consider Thunder Bay to be home. It is important to me and the rest of the team at Lakehead Family Dental that all members of the family have an enjoyable dental experience. I love the artistic aspects to my career and continue to pursue post graduate training in all areas of dentistry so that I can help patients achieve a beautiful and healthy smile. Outside of practicing dentistry, I enjoy exploring the outdoors and hiking with my husband, Paul and riding my horse, Myrtle.
For the past 17 years, I have enjoyed coming to work at Lakehead Family Dental. As the office manager I strive to have our office run smoothly and make it the best possible dental experience for our patients and an enjoyable work environment for our team. I’ve been married for 22 years, have 3 sons, and spend most of my time as a hockey/soccer mom.
I have been in the dental field since 2007, and am excited to be a member of the Lakehead Family Dental team. I absolutely love working as a dental receptionist and couldn’t picture myself anywhere else. Outside of work my partner Adam and I have a three year old son named Carter, and as a family we love to be outdoors, some of our favourite hobbies include fishing, camping and hiking.
I started in the dental field in 1982 and have been a part of Lakehead Family Dental since 1991 as a dental hygienist. I find it very rewarding to provide positive oral health care to familiar faces, and equally rewarding meeting new smiles every day. I live in the country with my husband, and enjoy time outdoors camping and spending time with my three children and new grandkids.
I graduated dental hygiene in 2009 and have had the pleasure of working at Lakehead Family Dental since 2010. As a part of the dental hygiene team I enjoy educating patients on the importance of oral health and helping them maintain a healthy smile. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog Ranger and cooking with my husband Eric.
As one of the office's certified level II dental assistants, I assist Dr. Griffiths chairside, take x-rays, perform lab work and help around the office to keep things moving smoothly. I always enjoy a good conversation with our patients and have learned some interesting things from them. I love what I do every day because it’s always different, and it’s great helping our patients achieve and maintain happy and healthy smiles. I love spending my time off with family and friends, camping, and fishing.
As one of our certified dental assistants, I have been assisting chairside with Dr. Sawula and Dr. Griffiths since 2010. I enjoy working with our amazing team and interacting with our patients, making them feel comfortable at each visit. Outside of the office my partner Kyle and I have a one year old son named Karter. We do lots of camping and fishing with our dog and love to spend time with family and friends.
I graduated from the dental assisting program in 2009 and became a proud employee of Lakehead Family Dental shortly after. I have had the pleasure of working chairside with both Dr. Sawula and Dr. Griffiths . I take great pride in establishing and maintaining patient relationships, as well as ensuring patients are comfortable during their dental experience. My husband Rob and I have 2 dogs and love to travel as much as possible.
